Overview
In this role you will design, implement, and optimize distributed systems for Aeron Sequencer, applying replicated state machines to capital markets. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to influence product decisions and architecture while delivering high-performance Java services. You’ll tackle challenges in reliability, performance, and scalable messaging, contributing to a product-driven fintech platform. This is an opportunity to shape technology used across financial market workflows in a collaborative, flexible environment.

Responsibilities
- Analyze, design, and develop distributed systems based on replicated state machines
- Write clean, efficient Java code
- Design and evolve messaging protocols and software libraries
- Troubleshoot and debug Java applications and distributed systems
- Apply testing, benchmarking, and profiling to improve correctness and performance
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to raise quality
- Contribute to product decisions beyond task execution
- Keep up to date with relevant software engineering practices
- Communicate technical decisions clearly to stakeholders
Key requirements
- Experience designing, building, debugging, and operating distributed systems
- Strong experience developing server-side software in Java
- Experience designing and evolving messaging protocols or libraries
- Experience using different forms of testing to support software quality (correctness and performance)
- Experience measuring, benchmarking, and profiling components or systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative approach and willingness to share knowledge
- Ability to prioritise competing demands based on long-term value and explain priorities
