Adaptive Careers is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading global manufacturing business, for an IT Systems Administrator – Linux. This is a permanent, site-based role located in Greenock, reporting directly to the IT Manager.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation where IT plays a mission-critical role in supporting complex production operations. You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of technologies and play a key part in ensuring stability, performance, and innovation across IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
* Administer, maintain, upgrade, and patch Linux, UNIX, Citrix, VMware, and backup environments
* Monitor system performance, capacity, and storage planning
* Plan and implement new technologies and system upgrades
* Diagnose and resolve technical issues, collaborating with stakeholders to minimise downtime
* Manage and maintain data backup and recovery processes
* Ensure compliance with software licensing requirements
* Contribute to the maintenance of business continuity and IT disaster recovery plans
* Support the upkeep of the physical and operational IT environment
About You (Essential Skills & Experience)
* Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
* Strong knowledge of Linux and UNIX systems administration(using Centos/RedHat currently)
* Solid understanding of infrastructure components (network, server, storage)
* Scripting, programming, and automation skills
* Experience with server virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMware)
* Knowledge of backup and recovery concepts
* Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Systems Administrator
* Excellent communication and teamworking skills
Desirable (But Not Essential):
* Experience administering databases such as PostgreSQL
