The Opportunity
We are supporting with the recruitment of a Senior Management Accountant for a well-established, nationwide retail business seeking to join its Glasgow City Centre support function. This is a hands-on, commercially focused role within a fast-paced retail environment, ideal for someone who enjoys partnering with stakeholders, improving processes and adding real value beyond the numbers. You’ll work closely with department managers across the business, helping them understand performance, solve problems and make informed decisions. The role also plays a key part in developing and optimising financial and retail systems. You’ll have exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence how finance supports the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of monthly management accounts, with a strong focus on stock reconciliation and cost of sales, including clear narrative and analysis.
- Production of monthly store performance dashboards, providing insightful commentary for retail stakeholders.
- Management of cash flow and working capital.
- Budgeting, forecasting, and balance sheet reconciliations, with a focus on cost control and efficiency.
- Reconciliation of insurance sales and preparation of VAT returns.
- Ensuring compliance with store licensing requirements (e.g. second-hand dealer regulations).
- Calculation of store commissions and bonus schemes to tight deadlines.
- Oversight of supplier payment runs.
- Preparation of year-end statutory accounts and audit schedules.
- Building strong working relationships with managers across finance, retail, and operations.
About You
- Fully qualified ICAS, ACCA, or CIMA accountant.
- Strong background in management accounting (retail, stock, or multi-site experience highly desirable).
- A proactive problem solver with a solutions-focused mindset.
- Confident communicator who can build trust with non-finance stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong experience working with financial systems.
- Positive, resilient, and comfortable working in a busy, evolving environment.
- Able to work on-site full time in Glasgow City Centre (this is not a hybrid or remote role).
