Overview
We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading name in the structural steelwork sector, to recruit a Junior Structural Steel Estimator. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in estimating within a well-established business that has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in reading and interpreting construction drawings and tender documentation.
- Support material take-offs and liaise with suppliers to help build accurate costs and tenders.
- Accompany senior estimators on site visits to take measurements and gather information for tenders.
- Help maintain communication with suppliers and clients regarding market trends and costings.
- Contribute to building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients.
- Work closely with Project Managers and senior estimators on tenders and live projects, including variations and additional works.
- Gain knowledge of steel fabrication and installation processes to support accurate estimating.
- Collaborate with colleagues and senior management to manage workload effectively.
- Use computer and communication skills to prepare professional and accurate estimate documentation.
What we are looking for
- Some experience in an estimating, engineering, or construction-related role, ideally within structural steelwork or a related sector.
- Basic understanding of steel fabrication and installation processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (training can be provided).
- Good communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong IT proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office; experience with estimating software is advantageous but not essential.
- A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
