Working on behalf of our client, we are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join a specialist fabrication and mechanical installation contractor that works mainly in the clean and wastewater utilities sector. Working within a purpose-built site office team of around 15, alongside a specialist pump supplier, the successful candidate will plan, coordinate and assure the mechanical installation of two new pumping stations on a major rail infrastructure project in Coventry. The programme runs for around 12 months, starting as soon as possible, and the role is 90% site-based within the site office. The position is available on a permanent or contract basis.

Key Duties

  • Plan and sequence mechanical installation activities, making sure labour, materials, plant, access and interfaces are ready for each stage of work.
  • Review drawings, specifications and supplier information to confirm constructability and compliance before installation.
  • Provide practical technical support on site for pumps, ductile iron pipework, valves, supports and associated mechanical systems, including large-bore pipework and heavy lifts.
  • Prepare detailed Method Statements and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), working collaboratively with the site team.
  • Monitor workmanship against approved drawings, project specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Maintain quality records, test packs, non-conformance reports and handover documentation.
  • Coordinate inspections, hold points, pressure testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning, ensuring evidence is signed off progressively.
  • Raise and close technical queries, liaising with client engineers, designers, suppliers and subcontractors to resolve issues promptly.
  • Support programme, progress and risk reviews, escalating constraints early and proposing practical solutions.

What we are looking for

  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Project Engineer, Site Engineer, Quality Engineer or similar delivery-focused role.
  • A strong mechanical background, with experience delivering mechanical installations on construction, water, utilities, rail or major infrastructure projects.
  • Practical knowledge of pumping stations, pumps, valves, ductile iron pipework, supports and flanged connections.
  • Experience writing Method Statements and ITPs, and managing test packs and quality records.
  • A good understanding of installation sequencing, lifting and access requirements, tolerances, pressure testing and commissioning.
  • A degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Clean or wastewater pumping station experience would be beneficial.

What our client can offer in return

  • A salary of up to Β£55,000.
  • A company vehicle.
  • Accommodation provided Monday to Friday, or the option to commute.
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Role-specific training and professional development opportunities.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • 12 months of work on a high-profile project, with future projects across the UK in the clean and wastewater sector.
  • An established business with a long track record, growing year on year.
