Haberdashers’ Adams is a selective state grammar school with academy status situated in the small market town of Newport in rural Shropshire. It is a co‑educational school from September 2024, taking approximately 30 girls into year 7. There are five forms of entry and currently about 1,050 pupils on roll; approximately 100 of these are boarders. The Sixth Form has about 370 students of whom about 120 are girls.
Our Computing department is a dynamic and successful part of the school, delivering excellent results at both GCSE and A‑Level Computer Science. We have very healthy GCSE numbers and an excellent uptake at A‑Level, with superb outcomes for both, with continued improvement year‑on‑year. In 2025, 68% of GCSE grades were at 9‑7 and at A‑level 60% of grades were A*‑B.
We are now entering an exciting phase of growth, with plans to introduce Computing at Key Stage 3, giving younger students the opportunity to develop essential digital skills and spark an early interest in the subject. The Head of Computing will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the subject within the school. Building upon the excellent work of the previous Head of Department, this is an opportunity for a visionary curriculum leader to take the department forward into an exciting new phase of growth.
