The company Adamo Foods is a deeptech food company developing an entirely new generation of meat alternatives, using our proprietary fermentation technology (3x patented). With our ultra realistic whole-cut products (starting with a filet alternative) we’ve landed letters of intent to sell products to some of the largest food distributors and restaurants. Over 90% of external tasters to date have said the Adamo Filet is the best product they’ve tried. We’re now beginning to scale up to commercial production and sales. We were recently ranked #20 in the Startups 100 index for the UK’s best new startups.

The role involves operating our production process, including fermentation, biomass processing post-harvest, and product manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have experience in either/both microbiology and industrial fermentation. Food manufacturing experience is nice to have. This role will also include aspects of facilities and office management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver end-to-end production, from spore preparation and incubation, to inoculation of the seed train, fermentation, harvesting biomass, post-harvest processing, and production into meat alternatives.
  • Operate bioreactors, TCU’s, pumps, filtration systems, and downstream support equipment; perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration support.
  • Identify and report equipment faults; support troubleshooting and corrective actions.
  • Execute fermentation runs according to batch records and process instructions.
  • Monitor critical process parameters: pH, temperature, DO, agitation, airflow, pressure, feed rates.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and contamination control.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of biological materials, chemicals, and waste streams.
  • Support environmental monitoring and housekeeping standards.
  • Provide operational feedback to improve process robustness and scalability.
  • Assist with other facilities and office management tasks as needed.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in biotechnology, microbiology, biochemical engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Experience in fermentation, ideally with filamentous fungi.
  • Practical experience operating bioreactors (lab, pilot, or industrial scale).
  • Experience using Standard Operating Procedures.
  • A strategic and analytical mind-set, able to find new ways to reach goals.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent data analysis skills, attention to detail, and record keeping.
  • Self-motivated and able to drive work as part of a small team.
  • Passion for food, the plant-based industry, and sustainability.
  • The right to work in the UK; unfortunately, we’re not able to sponsor visas for this role.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary.
  • Flexible working.
  • Team socials and away days and regular product tastings.
