Adamo Foods is a deeptech food company developing an entirely new generation of meat alternatives, using our proprietary fermentation technology (3x patented). With our ultra realistic whole-cut products (starting with a filet alternative) we’ve landed letters of intent to sell products to some of the largest food distributors and restaurants. Over 90% of external tasters to date have said the Adamo Filet is the best product they’ve tried. We’re now scaling up to commercial production and sales. We were recently ranked #20 in the Startups 100 index for the UK’s best new startups.

We are looking for an energetic, ambitious and experienced CTO to join our team to organise and oversee the scale-up of our fermentation and post-harvest process, and associated R&D. The ideal candidate should be an expert team, project and business manager, with a background in fungal fermentation, showing excellence as a technical leader, with a strong entrepreneurial drive.

Key responsibilities
  • Organise and lead the scale up of our patent-pending fermentation process into 000s litres scale with continuous processing
  • Plan our technical work around company targets
  • Manage and delegate to internal technical leads and external partners to deliver key projects, including: fermenter design and build, fermentation process development R&D, production facility design and fit out, post-harvest process development
  • Lead planning for future scale up to full industrial scale with prospective partners
  • Optimise our unit economics and contribute data to our commercial models
  • Contribute to budget planning and management
  • Build and lead a strong team of scientists and technical experts
  • Represent Adamo to our Board and prospective investors
Requirements
  • 10+ years experience in a similar role (CTO, Technical Director, Head of Scale Up, Fermentation Lead, etc)
  • Experience scaling up fermentation to large volumes (>50,000L) including with continuous production
  • Very strong project and business management experience and excellent communication skills
  • Experience setting up / supervising a manufacturing facility
  • Team leadership experience and track record of managing teams with diverse skills
  • Motivated to play a lead role in driving the business forward
  • Familiarity with fungal fermentation process is an advantage
