Position Summary
We are hiring our second in-house Software Engineer moving away from having used an app agency. This is a hands-on technical role. The successful candidate will be responsible to help develop and maintain our native app, and a backend system for analysing and processing results. You will be supported by a lead engineer but we want to give someone the opportunity to grow and take responsibility. This is not managing legacy fixed infrastructure. This is a chance to help choose and shape the engineering set up as the company grows with high value proprietary data, AI and cutting edge technologies.
Why Join Us Now?
As the second in-house engineering hire, you will be joining at a pivotal moment just as we close our second funding round. This is an opportunity for the right person that’s looking for a hands on role with scope to grow. You will have the unique opportunity to shape our technical foundations and establish best practices before the base code becomes more complex.
Experience we’re looking for:
- 5 years professional software engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience with mobile app development (production-level exposure).
- Experience with one or more of: React Native, Flutter, Swift, Kotlin / Java (Android).
- Experience of Python or Node.JS, ideally both.
- Backend & Systems Knowledge.
- Understanding of backend systems and API design.
- Object-oriented programming experience.
- Experience working with relational databases (e.g. RDS / PostgreSQL / MySQL).
- Understanding of microservice architectures and distributed systems.
- Experience with Node.js and/or Python in production environments.
Desirable Experience:
- Maintaining and shipping mobile apps in App Store / Play Store.
- Exposure to cross-platform migrations (native → Flutter / React Native).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud environments.
- Security-aware mindset, particularly around handling sensitive user data.
Profile We’re Looking For:
- Comfortable working across the stack when required.
- Mobile Development experience.
- Startup culture experience.
- Happy operating under technical leadership and structured review.
- Pragmatic and delivery-focused.
- Strong communicator in a small team environment.
- Remote role but travel to Cardiff or Bristol every 2 weeks expected. Weekly during onboarding.
Why not to apply:
We know how much effort can go into applying for a role and we don’t want you to waste time if you don’t have to. These are reasons not to apply:
- You are based overseas. This is a role for UK residents only.
- You are not comfortable with ambiguity. There is always lots going on in start ups, you can’t do everything so it’s about being comfortable focusing on what is important to achieve the next goal.
- You like focussing on a niche. This is a role where you will have oversight or be doing a number of different things.
Career Growth & Impact
This role is designed to evolve as the company and team expand. Although it is a mid level role we want to empower and support the person and give them the chance to grow. You will be instrumental in building the future engineering department at Adam Health.
Work Environment & Logistics
Location: This is a remote position for residents of the UK. No sponsorship is available. You will be required to commute to Cardiff or Bristol weekly during onboarding then approx every 2 weeks, thereafter. This is to work with the Engineering and Product leads and will be in a co-working space and location is flexible between Cardiff and Bristol.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: Determined by your level of experience but we estimate the range to be £50-60k. Equity: Share options package, allowing you to share directly in our success. Benefits: Pension scheme and a holiday allowance of 25 vacation days with more benefits in the process of being added as the business grows.
