The Role

We are looking for an experienced electronics engineer to join our Novation hardware team, where you will work with us to design our next generation of class-leading controllers and instruments. You will bring enthusiasm, solid technical skills and a track record of product delivery, with at least 3 years experience in music tech, consumer electronics or a similar industry. You will be the design authority for your hardware and will take it through its full life cycle from concept to production. You will work with Product Owners to help define features and requirements, produce system-level designs including selection of key technologies and components, then go on to design the resulting schematics and PCBs. You will be responsible for planning your work and delivering against production schedules – this means strong analytical and estimation skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical peers. You will spend a lot of your time designing and debugging hardware, so systematic measurement, analysis and fault-finding skills are essential. Signal integrity, EMC and analogue debugging experience are also highly desirable.

You will be working with a team of experienced engineers who are on hand to support you in a friendly, social and inclusive environment where our shared passion for music and music tech is front and centre. We encourage peer to peer mentoring as part of our culture and your ongoing development. We support flexible working, but due to the hands-on nature of the role you will need to spend a significant portion of your time on-site at our headquarters in High Wycombe.

Required skills and experience – you should apply for this role if you have:

  • A degree or HND in Electronics Engineering (or related subject).
  • Taken ownership of a commercial design throughout the full development process.
  • Experience of designing hardware that successfully balances quality, cost and time to market.
  • The ability to plan and deliver to deadlines, learning and applying new skills quickly.

Experience with the following tech would be an advantage:

  • User-interfaces including screens, switch and key scanning, LED drivers, analogue control sensing and processing.
  • Digital interfaces (e.g. LVDS, USB, I2C/SPI, MIDI/MIDI 2.0, SDRAM) and processor interfacing.
  • Linear and switching power supply design, PMICs, USB PD.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Design of cost-sensitive products for high-volume mass production.
  • Design and debug for EMC approvals.
  • An active interest in making music, synths and music technology.
  • Working with ODM/JDM/CDS models.
  • Altium Designer.
