A senior leadership opportunity for an established Chartered Building Surveyor. A fantastic position has arisen for a Senior or Associate Director Building Surveyor (MRICS) to join a fast-growing and ambitious Building Surveying team. With flexibility to be based in Covent Garden, Surrey or Birmingham, this role offers genuine influence over the direction, growth and reputation of the service line.
You will work closely with the Head of Building Surveying, playing a key role in expanding the team and client base, while helping to shape best practice, technical standards and commercial performance. This is a broad, senior-level role offering exposure to a diverse portfolio of instructions for private and Local Authority clients across multiple sectors. Our core specialisms include:
- Prime and super-prime residential
- Commercial office buildings
- Theatres and complex heritage assets
- Retail and shopping centres
The majority of work is based in London and the South-East, with opportunities to contribute to high-profile and technically challenging projects. You will also be expected to mentor and support junior surveyors, guiding them through their APCs and helping develop the next generation of Chartered professionals.
Key Responsibilities
As a senior member of the team, you will combine technical excellence with leadership and commercial acumen. Responsibilities include:
- Generating and developing new business relationships
- Managing and growing key client accounts
- Preparing fee proposals and contributing as a major fee earner
- Leading projects from instruction through to completion
- Delivering a full range of professional Building Surveying services, including:
- Measured and building surveys (residential & commercial)
- Party Wall services
- Writing specifications and preparing tender and contract documentation
- Acting as Contract Administrator
- Dilapidations advice
- Defect analysis surveys and technical reporting
- Licences to Alter (preparation, monitoring and sign-off)
- Assisting on Expert Witness matters, including site inspections and CPR35 reports
You will also work collaboratively with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Bank Monitoring Surveyors and Expert Witnesses, gaining exposure to complex, multidisciplinary instructions.
What you'll need:
- RICS-accredited degree in Building Surveying
- Full Chartered status (MRICS)
- 10+ years post-qualification experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with clients, colleagues and stakeholders
- Commercial awareness and confidence in a client-facing role
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Strong IT skills, including full working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- CAD / BIM experience (beneficial but not essential)
- A commitment to delivering high-quality, professional advice in line with RICS standards
