Position Summary: The Technical Industries Senior Manager strengthens GS1’s global leadership in Technical Industries (TI) as the Global Office tech industries practice leader. It manages critical internal and external relationships and may guide committees, experts and communities across the public and private sectors. The position requires confident engagement with senior stakeholders and the ability to influence global decision-making in a complex ecosystem. This role will split focus between construction, rail and maintaining a presence in all technical industries (energy, etc.), with a majority focus on construction. This will allow GS1 to better address TI needs and ensure that the needs of our Technical Industries communities have a global voice.

This new resource will:

  • Raise awareness of TI globally, both internally and externally, in partnership with the Centres of Excellence (CoE), standards experts and other teams as needed;
  • Support the TI CoE in the organisation/facilitation of workplans and events;
  • Lead and coordinate updating of our standards: Standards for the construction industry can be strengthened in a number of areas and are driven by a complex regulatory landscape (work to be done in partnership with Public Policy);
  • Ensure liaison with the other functions at GO (Corporate Planning, Marketing, Public Policy, Standards, Services, Training, …) so that the needs of Technical Industries are integrated in the GO functioning;
  • Work specifically on the solutions required to satisfy Industry needs (standards, services, delivery, noting that TI business processes often differ from those of other sectors).

The role will partner with an existing TI Centre of Excellence, comprised of an operational team who are focused on community engagement (including mobilisation) and sector expertise, as well as contribution to solution definition, development and delivery.

Responsibilities: Major Successes by 2030

The successful candidate will shape a unified global engagement model that elevates the relevance of GS1 standards, services and solutions across the Technical Industries landscape. They will build stronger communication and coordination mechanisms to increase transparency and highlight global progress, while supporting community and industry simultaneously. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the digital transformation and growth of a foundational global sector. It requires leadership across strategy, execution, stakeholder relationships and the development of solutions that bring tangible value to industry partners and Member Organisations.

The role will be responsible for strategic management of a prioritised workplan, with a set of goals to be achieved by 2030 that include:

  • Increased relevance of GTIN, GLN and GIAI as main identifiers used across Technical Industries + solution providers (platforms and IT systems).
  • Use of Verified by GS1 at scale, driving interoperability use cases and work related to certifications and claims.
  • Promoting and enforcing the sharing of structured data via GDSN, EPCIS and GS1 Digital Link.
  • Partner ecosystem maturity and integration progress.
  • Strengthening GS1 involvement in TI sectors globally.

The position collaborates with 120 Member Organisations worldwide to ensure GS1 remains a trusted, neutral and high‑impact partner in Technical Industries.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Serve as the strategic lead for Technical Industries matters, aligned with operational delivery led by the TI Centre of Excellence.
  • Develop, maintain and continuously refine a global TI strategy.
  • Track and report progress to governance groups and senior leadership.
  • Build and sustain trusted relationships with priority global organisations, ensuring these relationships help to maintain coherent sector engagement and coordinated messaging.
  • Contribute to developing tools, methods and processes that improve transparency and reporting.
  • Apply strong analytical and strategic thinking to structure problems, design solutions and guide decisions.
  • Align objectives with senior leadership and execute against the long‑term vision.
  • Partner closely with GS1 Member Organisations and industry groups to enable adoption and solution delivery.
  • Manage project economics: planning, budgeting, risk, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Share expertise by developing case studies, white papers, learning assets and sector resources.
  • Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging industry trends and business levers.
  • Understand the interaction between TI and adjacent sectors at both national and global levels.

Education/Experience: The ideal candidate will demonstrate motivation to deliver high-quality work and a collaborative, community‑focused mindset. They will combine strategic insight, operational experience and the ability to influence global partners. Additional requirements include:

  • 10-15 years of experience with major industry organisations, including 10+ years in a relevant Technical Industry.
