Ada Meher are proud to be partnered with an established development house on the outskirts of Doncaster as they look to recruit a new PHP Developer into one of their development squads to work on an upcoming greenfield project. The company has a team of around 30 developers split into various squads working across a mix of BAU, new platform/feature development, and also prioritise time for refactoring older systems to avoid technical debt. This role will be focused on a greenfield build of a new system. They are also doing some early stage R&D work in LLMs and AI so there could be scope for work in that area moving forwards.

This company operates on a hybrid remote basis and is looking to balance collaboration with the project team in the office and the flexibility of remote work. As such, candidates should be a permanent resident, have the full right to work in the UK and be willing to commute to the Doncaster office 3 days a week.

They maintain a strong commitment to standards and quality of code, focusing on the latest PSR-12 standards and SOLID principles as well as TDD. They also prioritise promoting staff within over hiring above people and offer a good learning and development opportunity, with licenses for popular learning platforms and accreditations available to all technical staff to help them progress through the ranks with clarity and support on what is required to take the next step up.

To be considered:

  • Strong experience in PHP Development
  • Demonstrable experience with relevant MVC frameworks (Preferably Laravel)
  • Experience working to SOLID principles
  • Experience with Docker would also be a benefit
  • Any knowledge of TDD is desirable but not essential

The company in question is a market leader not only in the solutions that they provide to their clients internationally but also the technology they work on and the environment they create with many perks such as flexible working hours and amazing progression opportunity. They aspire to create a relaxed environment where people can work on forward thinking technology solutions.

This PHP Developer role is attracting a high number of applicants at the moment so be sure to get in contact ASAP or send a CV to matthew.coney@adameher.com.

How to prepare for a job interview at Ada Meher

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Ada Meher uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
