Are you looking for a new role or change in career and are interested in enabling the ongoing support of a lady based in Clophill? Are you seeking a position where you can make a significant impact on the rehabilitation and quality of life to Sarah? Do you have a love of music, photography, or art? Sarah loves life, and enjoys interaction with others and getting out socially, but an accident resulting in a brain injury means that she needs some assistance with living independently.
The ability to drive her manual vehicle is essential (car driver), as is the personality and interpersonal skills to encourage independence, participation in rehabilitation, and to try new activities. Aside from aiding Sarah's social activities and rehabilitation, support is needed in her daily routines of meal preparation, shopping, cleaning, and aiding personal care. Every week she has art classes and has a real love for music. She is not reliant on a wheelchair and is conversational but does need some assistance with mobility as she can be unsteady.
Sarah responds best to Carers who are kind, assertive and have a good sense of humour, and must be engaging as she can become bored if not interacted. All her team love working with her, and comment on what good company she is, but also how on the ball and intelligent she is.
The Role
We are seeking to directly employ a support worker to provide one-to-one care for Sarah to help her ongoing rehabilitation and to enable her to access all the interests and hobbies she enjoys whilst living safely independently.
Candidates should have:
- Experience of working in social care, and a family home would be an advantage.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work on their own initiative as this role provides 1-2-1 care as part of an established team.
- Interacting and engaging in some of her hobbies such as playing cards, board games, photography, art, and music.
- Ability to undertake personal care if required.
- Ability to follow a care plan and instructions of the Physio etc.
- Motivation and engagement skills so that Sarah is living as independently as possible in her own personal home and ensuring that she engages with her physiotherapy adopting humour, kindness, and assertiveness.
- Creative thinking to identify new recreational and leisure interests, she is social, intelligent, and needs interaction to prevent boredom.
- Confident and competent in organising trips out and about with a consideration for Sarah's needs. She particularly enjoys shopping, visiting cafes, and going out for lunch.
- Calm, consistent, and positive approach as Sarah can suffer with frustration at times because of her restrictions and if not engaged boredom.
Successful applicants will be required to implement and enhance the rehabilitation programme which has been put in place by the team of therapists who already work with Sarah and whilst experience of working with Clients with sustained brain injury would be helpful, full training will be given. What is more important is your willingness to learn, and personality to engage with Sarah.
It is an essential requirement of the role that candidates are able to offer the flexibility to accompany Sarah on short breaks and holidays.
