About the Role

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join a Senior School from September 2026. This is a full-time, term-time role (approximately 36 weeks per year), working 8:00am–4:30pm, 5 days per week. You will play a key role in supporting the smooth running of a busy Science Department by preparing materials and apparatus for lessons, maintaining equipment, and ensuring Health & Safety standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and set up apparatus, materials, and chemical solutions for lessons
  • Assist teachers with practical experiments and demonstrations
  • Maintain laboratories, equipment, chemicals, and stock levels
  • Undertake stock checks, place orders, and manage deliveries
  • Carry out minor repairs or arrange external servicing
  • Ensure safe storage of chemicals and equipment
  • Maintain Health & Safety documentation, risk assessments, and CLEAPSS compliance
  • Keep laboratories clean, tidy, and well organised
  • Support science clubs, open days, and enrichment activities
  • Dispose of waste materials safely

Person Specification

  • Science background with experience handling chemicals and lab equipment
  • Strong organisational and practical skills
  • Good knowledge of laboratory Health & Safety requirements
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Flexible, reliable, and able to work as part of a team
  • Desirable: Previous school lab experience or relevant science qualifications
