ALEXANDER DANIELS are currently partnering with a well-established and growing organisation to recruit an experienced Payroll Administrator. This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple payrolls, and delivering a high level of accuracy and service.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring payrolls are processed accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end processing of weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls across a varied employee base
  • Managing employee lifecycle administration, including onboarding, payroll amendments, and leaver processing
  • Maintaining accurate payroll records and ensuring employee data is up to date at all times
  • Calculating and processing salaries, overtime, commissions, bonuses, expenses, and other payroll adjustments
  • Administering statutory payments and deductions in line with current legislation
  • Preparing and submitting payroll information to HMRC, including RTI reporting requirements
  • Managing PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions, and auto-enrolment obligations
  • Investigating and resolving payroll queries promptly, providing a professional service to employees and clients
  • Liaising with HMRC, pension providers, and other external bodies where necessary
  • Ensuring full compliance with payroll legislation, GDPR regulations, and internal controls
  • Supporting process improvements and keeping abreast of legislative and regulatory updates affecting payroll

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience processing payroll from start to finish within a payroll bureau, accountancy practice, or in-house payroll environment
  • Sound understanding of UK payroll legislation, statutory payments, PAYE, and HMRC compliance requirements
  • Experience working with payroll systems, with Sage Payroll knowledge advantageous
  • Strong numerical skills with excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple payrolls and prioritise workloads effectively within strict deadlines
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build positive relationships with employees, clients, and external stakeholders
  • Highly organised, proactive, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate payroll discrepancies efficiently
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and other payroll-related software

Desirable

  • CIPP qualification or equivalent payroll certification
  • Experience managing multiple client payrolls
  • Knowledge of workplace pensions and auto-enrolment processes
  • Experience handling high-volume payrolls across multiple pay frequencies
