Mechanical Service Technician
Renewable Energy & Anaerobic Digestion
UK-Wide Travel | Remote-Based
AD Energy Recruitment is partnering with a growing and innovative renewable energy business to recruit a Mechanical Service Technician to support anaerobic digestion and resource recovery facilities across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically minded engineer or technician who enjoys hands-on work, fault finding, and travelling to different sites to support critical renewable energy infrastructure.
Whether you already have experience within biogas and anaerobic digestion or come from another industrial maintenance environment, this role offers the opportunity to develop specialist expertise within one of the UK's fastest-growing renewable energy sectors.
The Role
As a Mechanical Service Technician, you'll be responsible for carrying out maintenance, inspections, fault finding, repairs, and commissioning support across a range of renewable energy facilities.
Working both independently and alongside site teams, you'll help ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably while supporting customers with technical issues and maintenance requirements.
No two days are the same. One day you could be troubleshooting pumps and mixers on a live AD facility, the next carrying out preventative maintenance, supporting commissioning activities, or helping optimise plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment.
- Diagnose and repair faults on mechanical systems, pipework, and process equipment.
- Operate and utilise primary and secondary test equipment safely and effectively.
- Service and maintain pumps, motors, submersible mixers, heat exchangers, valves, sensors, gas storage systems, and associated plant assets.
- Support fault finding and maintenance of conveyors, de-packaging equipment, feeders, heating systems, and other process plant equipment.
- Assist with commissioning, testing, and performance optimisation activities.
- Complete service reports, maintenance documentation, and commissioning records accurately.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and performance.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with site safety procedures, RAMS, and Safe Systems of Work.
What We're Looking For
- Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
- Minimum three years' experience within a mechanical maintenance, service, field service, or technician role.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working on industrial plant equipment, rotating machinery, pumps, motors, valves, or process systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload across multiple sites.
- Good understanding of Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), Risk Assessments, and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop within the renewable energy sector.
Desirable Experience
- Anaerobic digestion, biogas, biomethane, wastewater, or renewable energy experience.
- Industrial process plant or utilities maintenance background.
- Mechanical fitting experience.
- PE pipework and electrofusion competency.
- PASMA certification.
- CompEx Mechanical (Ex11).
- CSCS Trade Card.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
What's on Offer
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Company vehicle and tools provided.
- Extensive UK travel and varied site exposure.
- Ongoing training and development opportunities.
- Opportunity to build specialist expertise within the renewable energy and resource recovery sector.
- Long-term career progression within a growing and sustainable industry.
If you're a hands-on mechanical engineer or technician looking for a varied field-based role where you can develop your skills and contribute to the future of renewable energy, we'd love to hear from you.
