We are seeking an experienced Theatre Services Manager to lead our perioperative services, providing strategic and operational leadership across our operating theatres while driving exceptional clinical outcomes, workforce performance and business growth.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this senior leadership role offers the opportunity to influence both clinical and commercial outcomes within a dynamic private hospital environment.
Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary teams, you will ensure our surgical services continue to deliver exceptional patient experiences while achieving strong operational performance.
The Role
As our Theatre Services Manager, you will lead a high-performing perioperative team responsible for delivering safe, efficient and patient-centred care.
This role extends beyond traditional nursing leadership, with accountability for theatre utilisation, operational management, workforce planning, financial performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
You will play a key role in optimising theatre capacity, monitoring productivity measures such as worked hours per patient day, and ensuring resources are aligned to patient demand while maintaining the highest standards of clinical governance, quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary perioperative nursing team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability and collaboration.
- Drive theatre utilisation, operating theatre efficiency and capacity management to maximise patient access and service performance.
- Provide strong clinical leadership ensuring compliance with quality, accreditation, infection prevention and patient safety standards.
- Partner with surgeons, anaesthetists and hospital leaders to strengthen stakeholder relationships and support service development opportunities.
- Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning and staff development to build a sustainable, high-performing team.
- Monitor and manage operational and commercial performance, including labour productivity, staffing costs and departmental budgets.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes, staff engagement and organisational performance.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, legislative requirements and organisational policies across the perioperative environment.
- Contribute to hospital-wide strategic initiatives as a key member of the leadership team.
This is a permanent position for 80 hours per fortnight and is located at Royston Hospital in Hawkes Bay.

- Experience driving operational improvements, productivity initiatives and theatre efficiency outcomes.
- Proven capability in workforce planning, budgeting, labour management and service delivery performance.
- Excellent relationship management skills and the ability to influence surgeons, anaesthetists and senior stakeholders.
- A commitment to continuous improvement, patient-centred care and developing high-performing teams.
