Job Summary
At Atrius we are on a mission to democratize and distribute venue maps and location data to any screen and make it easy for anyone to discover and navigate any complex building. Today, we are a leader in the airline and airport industry, but we aren’t stopping here. There are millions of large buildings all over the world that can benefit from our mapping products. Our current customers include United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, JetBlue, Lufthansa, along with over 30 global airport customers.
We are currently looking for a brilliant Map Designer to join our team. We work in small teams, so this is an opportunity to have a big impact, contribute, and ship products quickly that are used by millions of people!
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Maintain ownership of creating original maps and location metadata from field-collected and architectural data sources.
- Help define and maintain precise, scalable, and efficient map building processes.
- Collaborate with Content Managers and field-based Data Collectors to ensure that maps are created and maintained with accuracy.
- Contemplate creative new ways to solve problems and prove them out.
- Maintain detailed metrics of the content creation efforts for use in improving processes.
- Provide feedback to engineering and product teams to optimize our custom tools and processes.
Skills and Minimum Experience Required
- At least 2 years’ experience in GIS, graphic design, cartography, architectural or engineering environment.
- A precise eye and passion for map design and cartography
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator
- The ability to visually recognize intricate design details related to fonts, color, strokes, patterns, etc.
- A keen sense of space and associated dimensions
- A portfolio of detailed plans or maps, preferably at least one large project where design consistency was a requirement
- Strong English proficiency, both speaking and writing
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Geography, Architecture, Urban Planning, Graphic Design, or a related field
- Experience with web mapping platforms and tools (e.g., Mapbox, Leaflet).
- Familiarity with database systems and data formats (e.g., GeoJSON, shapefiles).
- Experience in UX/UI design as it relates to mapping.

- 1-20%
