An established, family-owned business is looking for an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of its day-to-day finance function.

The business provides design, installation and ongoing maintenance services within a specialist workplace environment and is at a stage where it wants to strengthen its internal finance capability.

This is a hands-on role.

You'll be responsible for producing the numbers, maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring the Managing Director has accurate and timely financial information.

The business currently uses an external accountancy provider and will also have the support of a fractional Finance Director, who will help establish the appropriate finance framework and provide senior-level guidance.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day finance function.

You'll be someone who is comfortable getting into the detail and producing the management information yourself rather than simply reviewing work produced by others.

Responsibilities will include

  • Producing monthly management accounts from start to finish
  • Preparing P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow reporting
  • Completing balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining strong month-end controls
  • Managing accruals, prepayments and journals
  • Preparing budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections
  • Monitoring debtors, creditors and working capital
  • Producing revenue, cost, margin and profitability reporting
  • Coordinating VAT, payroll information and year-end requirements
  • Working with external accountants and other advisers
  • Improving finance processes, controls and reporting
  • Providing accurate financial information to the Managing Director
  • Implementing the reporting and control framework developed with the fractional Finance Director

About You

This role will suit an experienced accountant who enjoys being close to the numbers and involved in the day-to-day running of finance.

You'll ideally have

  • Strong experience producing monthly management accounts from start to finish
  • Good knowledge of P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow reporting
  • Experience of budgeting and forecasting
  • Strong reconciliation and month-end experience
  • Experience working within an SME, owner-managed or family-owned business
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of the finance function
  • A practical, hands-on approach
  • Good attention to detail and strong financial controls
  • Confidence working directly with a Managing Director and non-finance colleagues

You may be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience.

Experience within a project-led, service, facilities, workplace, interiors, installation or maintenance environment would be useful but isn't essential.

  • What's on Offer
  • Performance-related bonus
  • Direct reporting line to the Managing Director
  • Support from an experienced fractional Finance Director
  • Ownership of the day-to-day finance function
  • Opportunity to help establish and improve the internal finance processes of an established business

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys the hands-on side of finance and wants responsibility for the numbers and day-to-day finance function within an established SME.

All applicants will be required to undertake The Acuity Method assessment to be considered for the role.
