Help us create a net zero emission future! Founded in 2020, Acua Ocean is a fast-growing and dynamic start-up at the forefront of the carbon net zero and maritime autonomy sectors. AO is at the convergence of cutting-edge technologies, e.g., hydrogen propulsion, IoT, marine robotics and AI. We are hiring an Electrical Engineer to work within our growing Engineering Team developing cutting edge technology to use in our first marine autonomous surface ship (MASS).

Who you are:
- You should have +3 years experience as an Electrical Engineer.
- Able to work across teams of colleagues from diverse backgrounds, skills, knowledge, levels of experience and expertise.
- You build strong working relationships and communicate effectively with your colleagues across various functions.
- Able to work autonomously with a proactive mindset.
- You balance commercial design considerations with a drive for quality, evaluating the data to inform your decision making.
- You are confident in your skills and know your area of expertise with an eye for innovation.
What you’ll do:
- Design, integrate, and troubleshoot electrical systems including power distribution, sensors, navigation, and communication subsystems for USVs.
- Develop wiring diagrams, harnesses, and PCB layouts to support both prototype and production-ready platforms.
- Collaborate closely with software, mechanical, and naval architecture teams to ensure seamless system integration and performance.
- Conduct at-sea testing and diagnostics to validate electrical systems under real-world maritime conditions.
- Source components, manage electrical BOMs, and support vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective and reliable parts procurement.
- Implement safety and redundancy measures to meet maritime and regulatory standards for remote and autonomous vessel operation.
What you’ll need:
- UK citizenship. Unfortunately we cannot sponsor visas for this role.
- Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (or other Engineering degree with a strong focus on Electrical Engineering) with 3+ years of experience.
- Confident with analog and digital circuit design and debugging.
- Proficient with electrical CAD tools e.g. AutoCAD.
- Experience in PLC programming.
- Network experience (e.g. IP/Ethernet, CAN).
- Experience in integrating high-power systems and energy storage (batteries, power converters, etc).
- Experience using Azure DevOps (desirable).
- Experience with Python (desirable).
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to electrical systems, such as IEEE, IEC, and ABS is a plus (desirable).
- Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership (desirable).
- Experience in the maritime sector (highly desirable).
