Overview

Founded in 2020, ACUA Ocean is a fast-growing and dynamic start-up at the intersection of ocean autonomy and maritime security. Our intelligent and scalable uncrewed surface vessel (USV) platform supports applications including environmental monitoring, offshore infrastructure resilience, coastal protection, and marine surveillance — all with minimal human footprint.

In 2026 we are looking to expand our internship programme and are seeking applications from students studying (or who have recently completed degrees in) Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics and Automation or related engineering disciplines. We will be accepting applications until the 18th January 2026, with interviews taking place in late January 2026. Successful candidates will be expected to be available to commence either a 3 or 6 month internship between March - September 2026.

Who you are:

  • You should hold or be completing a Degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Applicants studying at Plymouth University, local Plymouth colleges and institutions and/or based in the South West will be given priority as part of our ongoing commitment to investing in talent in the Great South West region.
  • Able to work across teams of colleagues from diverse backgrounds, skills, knowledge, levels of experience and expertise. You build strong working relationships and communicate effectively with your colleagues across various functions.
  • Able to work autonomously with a proactive mindset.
  • You are confident in your skills and know your area of expertise with an eye for innovation.

What you’ll need:

  • Hold UK citizenship. We will not sponsor visas.
  • Be able to commit to a 3 or 6 month full time internship.
  • Be studying for (or recently graduated) a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics and Automation or a related engineering discipline.
  • An interest or experience in the maritime sector (desirable).
  • A flexible approach and a willingness to apply yourself across the whole spectrum of this growing business.
  • Ability to become a valued member of this close knit team and make an active contribution to the development of cutting edge solutions.

Benefits/Compensation:

  • £24,000 salary (pro rata).
  • Pro rata paid annual leave plus bank holidays plus Christmas closure.
