We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Heavy Vehicle Compliance Officer to support our vegetation management operations. This role is critical in ensuring our transport activities meet NHVR requirements and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations across our fleet, drivers, and field teams. Working closely with operations and other key stakeholders, you’ll play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture while ensuring the compliant movement of plant, equipment, and vegetation waste across all worksites.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure compliance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and NHVR standards
- Monitor and enforce Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations across all levels of the business
- Oversee driver fatigue compliance (Standard Hours / BFM) and review work diaries and telematics
- Conduct audits, inspections, and spot checks across depots and field operations
- Investigate incidents, breaches, and near misses, and implement corrective actions
- Deliver training and toolbox talks to drivers, supervisors, managers and operational staff
- Support the safe transport of machinery and equipment across all work locations i.e. permits, route / trip planning, mass, load and fatigue management
- Maintain accurate compliance records and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders
You enjoy leading from the front, being out in the field and engaging directly with work crews, drivers, supervisors and managers. You’re a detail-oriented compliance professional who knows how to influence good behaviours that keep our people and other road users safe and compliant.
You will bring:
- Strong knowledge of NHVR regulations, HVNL, and CoR obligations
- Experience in transport compliance, logistics, or a related role
- Understanding of fatigue management and load restraint practices
- Confidence in conducting audits and investigations
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence safe behaviours
- Experience in vegetation management, civil, utilities, or similar industries (highly regarded)
- Relevant qualification in Transport, Logistics, Compliance, WHS, or similar (desirable)
- Current Australian driver’s licence (HR/HC highly regarded)
- NHVAS or fatigue management accreditation experience (advantageous)
