Active Staff are proud to be representing a growing company in the area who are looking to add a Toolmaker to their manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the manufacture, maintenance and improvement of all tooling, jigs and fixtures in line with production and customer requirements.

Responsibilities for Toolmaker:

  • Manufacture, modify, and refurbish tooling, jigs, fixtures, and components from drawings or specifications
  • Improve tooling and processes to enhance quality, productivity, and cost efficiency
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, respond to breakdowns, and minimise downtime
  • Implement engineering solutions for non-conformances and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support the introduction of new or revised tooling and production methods
  • Liaise with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure effective tooling performance
  • Maintain accurate tooling records and manage consumable material requirements
  • Support maintenance activities, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Contribute to productivity improvements and cost reduction initiatives
  • Support standard work development, documentation, and general project activities

The person for Toolmaker:

  • Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship
  • ONC in mechanical engineering discipline would be advantageous
  • Minimum 5 years – engineering business
  • Minimum 3 years (post apprenticeship) in a toolmaker (or similar) role
  • Able to competently operate milling machine, pillar drill, grinder and centre lathe
  • Knowledge of measurement
  • Understanding of engineering drawings
  • Understanding manufacturing processes
