Active Prospects is an award-winning charity which supports around 400 people each year in the south-east who have a learning disability, mental health need or are autistic. This year we were proud to win Employer of the Year at the National Learning Disability & Autism Awards.

We are looking for a Housing Manager to work in conjunction with, and to support the Property and Maintenance team.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused housing management services.
  • Manage complex tenancy and estate issues and support continuous service improvements across the organisation.
  • Provide an effective, efficient, responsive service to the people we support, who require housing-related support to remain in their home and/or continue with their tenancy.
  • Liaise with external agencies, legal representatives, and local authorities.
  • Develop and implement strategies, policies, procedures and service improvements within tenancy support.
  • Advance knowledge of housing legislations/regulations and conflict resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with Regulator of Social Housing standards.
  • Line manages maintenance/compliance team to ensure responsive repairs are dealt in accordance to the SLA.

Responsibilities will also include:

  • Support the people we support to set up and maintain a home and tenancy.
  • Undertake housing assessments, record meetings and take detailed support notes during support visits.
  • Carry out estate inspections, liaise with contractors, and ensure safety and statutory compliance checks are up to date.
  • Assist the people we support to manage their finances and welfare benefit claims, particularly housing benefit, universal credit, disability benefits and DLA/PIP.
  • Advise people we support on access to local community organisations, resources, activities and employment opportunities.
  • Support with maintaining a safe home environment for the people we support and assist in reporting maintenance issues and concerns.
  • Assist and support the people we support to meet rent and service charges obligations to landlords.
  • Organise monthly tenancy meetings in liaison with service managers.
  • Authorise legal action for rent arrears and represent the association in court where required.
  • Administer the provision of comprehensive information to the people we support in relation to service charges, annual uplifts of rent and contracts.
  • Ensure Active Prospects housing stock is managed to a high standard and compliant with Decent Home Standards and Awaab's Law.
  • Investigate incidents of nuisance and anti-social behaviour, keeping relevant parties informed and maintaining accurate records.
  • Work with the Director of Property and external consultants on the Environment policy.
  • Ensure regular health and safety checks in properties to ensure tenancy agreements are upheld and properties remain safe and secure.

The successful candidate will have the following Knowledge, Training & Experience:

  • Experience of working as a Housing Manager within registered social housing, charities and local authorities with minimum of 5 Years experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of housing legislations and regulation within Housing Support, evictions, housing benefits and other welfare benefit claims.
  • Qualified with professional housing qualification with Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Level 4 Certificate for the Housing Profession.
  • Experience leading and supporting initiatives that help tenants access benefits and financial help.
  • Have a passion for involving people we support in every aspect of their service.
  • Have the ability to work flexible hours including some weekends, evenings and conduct night audits if required.
  • Own a Full Driving Licence and be able to use own vehicle for business use.
