We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual as a Health and Safety Officer to ensure a professional, practical and comprehensive Health and Safety advisory and support service is provided. The role will involve taking ownership for the maintenance and improvement of health and safety within the council, providing advice and delivering training to managers and collating and analysing data in order to produce reports and recommendations to the Corporate and Senior Management Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure Council remains compliant with current and proposed legislation relating to H&S and maintain accurate H&S records for audit and RIDDOR reporting purposes.
  • Carry out investigations as and when required.
  • Undertake regular site inspections of any Council workplace.
  • Maintain and write H&S policies and procedures.
  • Arrange first aiders and first aider training.

Qualifications & Experience

  • NEBOSH Diploma or a degree in a relevant subject coupled with a post graduate diploma in Occupational Safety.
  • Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health or eligible for membership.
  • Previous experience in a similar role and delivering training.
  • Excellent communication skills and competent user in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Highly motivated, able to use initiative to work independently, solve problems and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  • Adopt a flexible approach to work, and occasional work outside normal office hours may be required.
