Pentathlon GB is seeking an experienced safeguarding practitioner to act as Volunteer Safeguarding Lead for our team of selected Pentathletes attending the 2026 School Games National Finals.

What are the Schools Games National Finals:
The School Games provides a unique experience, combining competition with the atmosphere of a multi-sport Games. This event is a fantastic opportunity for those selected athletes to compete in one of the UK's leading multi-sport events, bringing together the top young athletes from across the country in a high-performance environment. For most of the selected athletes, it is an important step in understanding the demands of major championships and performing in a high-level environment.

What is the Modern Pentathlon:
Modern Pentathlon is an Olympic multisport that challenges athletes across five disciplines: épée fencing, 100m freestyle swimming, obstacle course racing, laser pistol shooting, and running. Introduced by Olympic founder Pierre de Coubertin in 1912, it is designed to test the ultimate "complete athlete". Our sport has adapted over recent years to the exciting, fast paced event seen today.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as the designated point of contact for any Pentathlon safeguarding concerns arising during the event.
- Provide safeguarding advice and support to athletes, staff and volunteers as required.
- Liaise with the Pentathlon GB staff and event safeguarding personnel where necessary.
- Be accommodated with the team throughout the event, including overnight, providing safeguarding support and oversight during the evenings and acting as the first point of contact for any safeguarding concerns arising overnight.
- Support the creation of a safe, positive and athlete-centred environment throughout the event.
Requirements:
- Previous safeguarding experience.
- Relevant safeguarding training (current or recently completed).
- Ability to manage concerns appropriately and maintain confidentiality.
- Enhanced DBS with Children's Barred List check
- Ability to work in accordance with Pentathlon GB safeguarding policy and code of conduct.
- What is provided:
- All accommodation, meals and transport are provided by the Schools Games team.
- Specific event uniform – 2x t-shirts and 1x hoodie specific for your role.
- Where transport options are not possible, travel expenses are covered.
- Support prior to the event from the Pentathlon GB safeguarding and Welfare Lead, as well as the Pentathlon GB events staff.
- Support from Pentathlon GB staff and Pentathlon event team throughout the event.
- Opportunity to support young athletes at a major multi-sport event.
This is a voluntary role for the duration of the School Games only, although we are always keen to hear from excellent volunteers who may be interested in supporting Pentathlon GB on a longer-term basis.
