The Garden Project hopes to create a space that people can come and enjoy. The project is available to everyone and is aimed to help support and grow people's confidence in plant and flower care whilst encouraging and supporting people to use these skills at home.
Our lovely garden is in some desperate need of some tender loving care. We want the garden project to be an ongoing project where people can come along and learn gardening, plant and flower care. We want to create some raised beds and plant, grow and cultivate salad and vegetables. There are two sheds that need a repaint and overgrown trees and weeds that will need pruning and care.
We'd like the volunteers to have input into how the project is run to get the most out of the garden and help motivate people.
Skills/Equipment Required:- Gardening interest.
- Some plant and flower care knowledge.
- An understanding of how to use garden tools safely.
Reasonable level of fitness required. Digging, bending, lifting, and pushing of wheelbarrows involved.
What to Wear and Bring:Clothes may get muddy and spoiled, so you may want to wear old clothes or overalls (some painting activities involved). There is a coffee shop at the centre which is open until 1pm every day - this provides breakfast, lunches, and refreshments. You may require a packed lunch. Drinks are provided for volunteers.
Risks:Cuts, grazes, stings, tool injuries, slips, trips, or falls. Risk assessments will be carried out and available to read and sign to help reduce any risks.
Frequency of Sessions:Weekly (depending on the availability of volunteers)
Duration of Each Session:10:30am - 12:30pm, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Access Considerations:Our garden has very good access and is accessible to wheelchair users. The grass is wheelchair accessible as it is artificial.
Additional Comments:We want the project to be accessible to all. The garden is open and accessible most days and times. We hope to offer a consistent session and an after-school session that children and families could access together. We require references for volunteers. Children will need to be accompanied by parents or carers.
