Active Forestry is an independent forestry and arboricultural consultancy working across woodland management, woodland creation, estate consultancy, operational forestry and tree risk management. We work with a broad range of private estates, landowners, farms and institutional clients, delivering practical and commercially grounded forestry advice with a strong focus on long term woodland resilience, sustainable management and professional integrity.

The Role
We are looking to recruit a Forest Manager / Forestry Consultant to support and help deliver a varied workload across the North of England. The role would suit someone early or mid career who already has experience within the forestry sector and is looking to take their next step professionally, with greater responsibility, client exposure and the opportunity to shape their own development pathway. This is not a narrowly defined office based consultancy role. We are looking for someone who understands the practical realities of forestry operations, enjoys working with clients and contractors, and wants to be involved across the full spectrum of woodland management and forestry consultancy.
Typical Work Areas
- Woodland Management Plans (UKFS compliant)
- Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier and capital grant applications
- Woodland creation schemes and grant support
- Standing sales and harvesting operations
- Contractor management and operational supervision
- Estate and private client consultancy work
- Tree safety and woodland risk management
- Mapping and reporting using GIS and LandApp
- Woodland establishment and maintenance operations
- Continuous Cover Forestry and resilient woodland management approaches
What We Are Looking For
- Have a practical understanding of forestry operations and woodland management
- Understand the real world application of licencing, CSHT and harvesting
- Are well motivated, personable and easy to work with
- Can communicate professionally with clients, contractors and stakeholders
- Are keen to continue learning and developing technically
- Have experience preparing reports, maps or grant applications
- Hold a relevant (level4+) forestry qualification or equivalent industry experience
- Hold a full UK driving licence
Additional practical forestry tickets, GIS experience or arboricultural knowledge would be advantageous, but attitude and capability are more important to us than simply ticking boxes.
