The Cricket Academy – Coach

Pay: £***** – £***** per hour (depending on qualification)

Hours: 8:30–4:30pm OR 9:30–5:30pm (venue dependent)

Travel Expenses: 30p per mile after the first 35 miles per day

Inspire the next generation of cricketers through high quality coaching delivered the Activate Way. The Cricket Academy (TCA) is designed to help children and teenagers develop their cricket skills through innovative games, technical coaching and match play. Every day includes batting, bowling, fielding, gameplay and challenges—tailored to age and ability—and delivered by ECB qualified coaches using professional grade equipment. We are looking for passionate, skilled and safety focused Coaches to lead their own group and deliver an enjoyable, developmental cricket experience.

About Activate Camps

Activate Camps create fun and safe environments for young people to grow through technical sessions, gameplay, challenges and teamwork. Every camp builds towards the Activate Games, where children earn points for displaying BEST behaviour: Bravery, Enthusiasm, Sportsmanship and Teamwork.

The Role

As a Cricket Academy Coach, you will lead your own group of 8–15 children, plan and deliver cricket sessions and support the smooth running of the camp. You'll create engaging sessions that help every child build confidence and develop their skills in batting, bowling and fielding. Safety is essential, especially in net and hard ball environments, and you will follow Activate procedures to manage these sessions appropriately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre Camp
  • Complete Activate Camps training
  • Complete all onboarding tasks accurately and on time
  • Review and understand the timetable and cricket curriculum
  • During Camp
    • Present professionally in full Activate uniform
    • Support camp setup and registration
    • Deliver an engaging Extra Time Club activity
    • Assist with participant grouping and ability assessment on Day 1
    • Supervise break and lunchtime periods
    • Lead your own group of 8–15 children
    • Deliver fun, progressive and technically sound cricket sessions aligned with the TCA curriculum
    • Implement coaching points and progressions for each session
    • Ensure high standards of safety, especially during hard ball and net sessions
    • Communicate with parents when required
    • Support the Camp Manager with reasonable requests
    • Maintain a clean and safe camp environment
    • Report hazards and incidents promptly and professionally
    • Encourage reflective practice and goal setting within your group
    • Support end of day collection and ensure children are prepared for the next day
    • Deliver daily batting, bowling, fielding, conditioned games and fundamentals sessions
    • Lead or support Team Challenge activities and contribute to the points system
  • Post Camp
    • Pack away equipment safely
    • Complete and submit coaching session logs
    • Participate in a team debrief
    • Prepare sessions and equipment for the next day
