Job Description:

About the role: Vocational Trainer in Performing & Production Arts and Media

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring Vocational Trainer in Media and Performing & Production Arts within the Createch Faculty, based at Banbury College.

Createch is where creativity meets technology, bringing together creative skills and emerging technologies. This is a unique opportunity to work across both Performing and Production Arts andCreative Media pathways, studying UAL and T-Level qualifications. This roles primary focus will be on our UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Technical & Production Practice for the Creative Industries (), as well as covering the backstage elements for our Level 2 and 3 Performing Arts students, many of whom go on to follow a Production pathway. There will also be scope to deliver on our Level 2 and 3 Media courses.

As a Vocational Trainer, you will play a vital role in guiding students as they develop a wide range of practical skills, for careers in Technical and Production Arts (e.g. Set Design, Prop Making, Lighting, Sound, Stage Management, Event Planning) alongside digital media skills (e.g., filming, editing). You will also be responsible for maintaining safe and inspiring learning environments, including the theatre, TV studios, workshops, and digital labs, and supporting students as they explore interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of live and recorded performance events.

This role includes delivering lessons, supervising practical workshops, and supporting students as they develop their practical skills. You will work closely with teaching staff to plan projects, contribute to the design of schemes of learning, and provide students with constructive feedback to help them progress.

This is a permanent, part-time position based at Banbury College. The role is for 1 to 1.5 days per week and currently has timetabled sessions planned for a Tuesday.

What do you need to be a successful Vocational Trainer in Performing & Production Arts and Media?

Successful candidates will have an appropriate professional qualification and/or a degree in a relevant field, such as Performing Arts, Production and Technical, Media Studies, or Film Production. Knowledge of UAL and T-Level specifications is desirable but not essential. While we welcome applications from those without formal teaching qualifications, you should be able to inspire learners and be committed to developing your teaching practice.

Candidates should demonstrate a flexible approach, excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, and a passion for supporting students as they build a wide range of creative skills. Experience in managing studio spaces, booking systems, and maintaining equipment would be an advantage, as would a generalist background that allows you to support both traditional Performing Arts and Digital Media practices.

Finally, you should have a desire to engage with the wider community, building links with local businesses and industry partners to enhance students\' work experience and project-based learning opportunities. This role sits within the wider Creative Industries and Createch Faculty, which includes Media, Art & Design, Performing & Production Arts, Games Development, IT and Esports, so an ability to offer an additional specialism would be desirable.

If you are committed to delivering outstanding teaching and learning and are excited by the opportunity to shape the next generation of creative professionals, please complete the application form.
