About the role: Teacher in Machinery and Habitat Maintenance

Activate Learning are now looking for a Machinery and Habitat Maintenance Teacher to join our Land-based teaching team at Merrist Wood College.

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and creative individuals with the ability to inspire, so that our students have a memorable learning experience.

With your excellent subject knowledge and practical skills you will work collaboratively with our existing team of talented and passionate teachers to ensure we plan and deliver purposeful practical and theory lessons on our Level 2 and Level 3 programmes, and participate in the curriculum development to meet the needs of changing industry demands.

You\’ll get to work within a beautiful 420-acre estate of woodlands, wetlands, livestock, gardens and grasslands.

This is a permanent, part-time role working 4 days per week (0.8 FTE) at our Merrist Wood College campus.

What do you need to be a successful Teacher in Machinery and Habitat Maintenance at Activate Learning?

We are looking for people who can act as role models for our students and ensure that they leave us with not just their professional qualifications, but the attributes required to progress in the world of work.

Whilst previous teaching experience and qualification would be an advantage, it is not a requirement. As long as you have the necessary qualifications and experience to teach machinery operation and habitat maintenance and can demonstrate the attributes to be an inspirational teacher, we can provide you with the necessary training, development and support to equip you to teach in the FE sector.

You will have a relevant qualification at Level 3 or higher in a relevant subject area, such as Arboriculture, Horticulture/Landscaping, Countryside Management, Agriculture, Ag Engineering, etc.

You must have extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of a range of land-based machinery, including both handheld and ride-on grounds maintenance equipment and have experience of organising and undertaking a wide range of practical habitat maintenance tasks.

Formal qualification in machinery operations such as NPTC, Lantra or NPORS would be desirable, but is not required.
