We are seeking committed and reflective professionals to deliver high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment within the Personal Development curriculum. This role is central to ensuring learners experience a structured, engaging and impactful programme that supports their academic progress, personal growth and readiness for further study, employment and life beyond education. Personal Development is a fully taught and assessed element of the study programme, delivered with the same expectations, rigour and professional standards as all other curriculum areas. The role is fully embedded within faculty teams and quality assurance processes, contributing to a coherent and consistent learner experience.

Teachers of Personal Development will play an important role in creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment, working collaboratively with curriculum colleagues, tutors and support services to ensure learners are well supported and appropriately challenged throughout their journey. We have two permanent, part‑time opportunities available at our Surrey colleges: Farnham College (22.2 hours per week – 0.6 FTE) and Merrist Wood College (33 hours per week – 0.89 FTE).

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and assess an engaging Personal Development curriculum in line with agreed quality standards, ensuring consistency and learner engagement.
  • Monitor learner progress, attendance and development, contributing to timely intervention and positive outcomes.
  • Work as part of faculty teams, aligning delivery with curriculum planning, timetabling and quality assurance processes.
  • Maintain high professional standards, including safeguarding responsibilities and appropriate learner‑teacher boundaries, while contributing to curriculum improvement and development.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of effective teaching, learning and assessment practices and how to support learner progress and engagement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within curriculum teams, contributing to planning, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to professional development, including willingness to undertake a Level 3 teaching qualification and progress onto a Level 5 Teacher Apprenticeship.
  • Confident working with a diverse range of learners and able to build positive, respectful relationships that promote trust, motivation and engagement.
  • A strong commitment to maintaining high standards, safeguarding and professional practice.
