Role Overview
We’re looking to recruit a new Sociology Teacher to join our Academic Studies Faculty at Guildford College to teach GCSE and A-level Sociology. Students on our GCSE and A-Level Sociology courses are looking for an inspirational and engaging teacher, with a clear passion for the subject to help develop their understanding and knowledge. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of the curriculum and resources for Sociology, participate in departmental meetings, parent evenings and school events, and support extracurricular activities or clubs related to the subject area.
This is a permanent, part‑time role working 22.1 hours per week (0.60 FTE) based at our Guildford College.
Responsibilities
- Develop curriculum and resources for Sociology.
- Participate in departmental meetings, parent evenings and school events.
- Support extracurricular activities or clubs related to the subject area.
- Deliver interesting and purposeful lessons to a diverse range of learners.
- Prioritise workload, plan lessons and manage communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloads.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous teaching experience or qualification is a plus but not required.
- Qualifications or experience to teach on GCSE and A-Level Sociology courses.
- Demonstrated attributes to be an inspirational teacher.
- Genuine interest in working with and developing young people.
Induction & Development
All teaching staff receive a mandatory three‑day induction programme providing an understanding of our mission, values and learning philosophy‑led culture.
New teachers also attend a one‑day Introduction to Teaching session covering teaching, learning and assessment approaches.
