We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring Vocational Trainer in Performing Arts within the Createch Faculty based at Banbury College. This post provides an excellent opportunity for a practitioner/tutor or developing teacher with passion and drive who is committed to enabling our students to unlock their potential and switch on to the power of learning.

The post will be to support the teaching and skill development of students on our Performing Arts courses across a range of Level 2 and Level 3 Performing and Production Arts courses. The Vocational Trainer role is highly varied, with each day bringing a different mix of responsibilities. This includes technician duties, preparing and maintaining theatre and studio spaces, managing equipment loans (check-in/out), tracking and ordering resources, and ensuring safe working practices at all times. The role also involves maintaining well-organised, high-quality creative spaces, workshops and equipment stores.

Working side by side with teaching staff, our team of Vocational Trainers are responsible for guiding students as they build a wide base of practical skills up to Level 4 in Technical and Production, so a Performing Arts teacher with the ability to offer some backstage or technical elements would be a significant advantage. This is a permanent, part-time role working 18.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE). While the rest of the hours are flexible, you must be able to work on Mondays and Thursdays.

What do you need to be successful as a Vocational Trainer at Activate Learning?

  • Successful candidates will have an appropriate professional qualification and/or a degree, preferably with a generalist Performing Arts background with a variety of specialisms, such as acting, devising, movement or voice.
  • The ability to deliver any technical or production elements would be desirable.
  • While we would prefer applications from those with teaching experience in a secondary or FE setting, we would consider applications from inexperienced trainers who can demonstrate a can-do attitude, are student-focused, and have the ability to inspire our learners and a willingness to develop skills within teaching and learning.
  • You will need to have a flexible approach, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • You will have an open mindset and attitude towards technology and virtual learning tools.
  • Along with current Maths and English skills, you will also demonstrate the ability to engage and develop students and role model the attributes that we develop within our learners.
  • Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate their desire and ability to work alongside the wider team to develop links with local businesses and the wider community to build and engage students in valuable work experience and project-based learning.

Performing Arts sits within the wider Creative Industries and Createch Faculty (including Art & Design, Media, Games, IT and Esports). There may be opportunity to combine this role with other part-time positions within the faculty, depending on a candidate’s skillset. Applicants interested in this should outline this clearly in their personal statement.
