Balfour Beatty are looking for a Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor (HSW) to join our Regional Civils team on the North Hykeham Relief Road project in Lincolnshire. This £200m scheme will create a new dual carriageway linking the A46 Pennells Roundabout to the recently completed Lincoln Eastern Bypass. The works will include new roundabouts at South Hykeham Road, Brant Road and Grantham Road, along with new bridges at Station Road and over the River Witham. The HSW Senior Advisor will play a critical role in delivering Balfour Beatty's commitment to Zero Harm by providing advanced professional HSW guidance, leadership, and assurance across the project. They will ensure that the project is compliant with the health, safety, environmental and sustainability requirements of the UK Business Management System (BMS).
What you’ll be doing:
- Champion and model a relentless commitment to Zero Harm across all projects and activities.
- Support, coach, monitor and mentor operational and functional teams onsite.
- Carry out inspections, targeted inspections and audits as per risk matrix and as required.
- Contribute to the Strategic Business Unit action plan and translate policies, standards & targets for the Project.
- Lead or support investigations on all incidents, including near misses and feedback any lessons learned.
- Utilise the findings from reporting data, assessments, external and internal audits to drive action plans and inform key business decisions.
- Provide health and safety expertise to the leadership, contract, project and operational teams.
- Provide ongoing expertise, support and coaching to contracts, projects and offices through regular and structured site visits and communications.
- Enable contracts, projects and offices to recognise risks and opportunities, to deliver overall health and safety obligations, improve performance, meet targets and required standards.
- Develop and coach individuals as required to build high performing teams.
- Maintain and develop wider HS&W skills and knowledge.

Who We’re Looking For:
- Experience in civil engineering construction projects.
- NEBOSH Diploma/NVQ level 5 level qualification.
- Membership of professional body such as IOSH.
- Effective communication and ability to engage and influence contractors, clients and leadership teams.
- Ability to promote a positive HS&W culture.
- Competence in incident investigation.
- Understanding of UK policy, H&S legislation, regulatory frameworks and experience in briefing senior managers on changes in legislation or policy and how these might affect their area of work.
- Demonstrates commitment to continual learning to refine, further develop and apply expertise to add distinctive value to customers and Balfour Beatty.
- Experience in construction environment.
