Job Title

Fundraising and Development Manager

Job Purpose

To develop fundraising proposals and raise project funds from trusts and foundations, to raise funds through trading activities and events, and to support Action Village India in building effective relationships with project partners in line with the organisation’s strategic objectives.

Executive Director and Trustees

Hours

14 hours per week (equivalent to 2 working days) – ideally Wednesday and Thursday.

Contract

Permanent, after a successful 6‑month probationary period

Accessibility

Thanks for your interest. Due to the office location, this position is not suitable for anyone with additional accessibility needs. The office is on the second floor with a narrow staircase and no lift.

Fundraising Management and Donor Liaison

  • Research, develop and submit fundraising proposals to major donors, trusts and foundations in line with organisational priorities.
  • Maintain spreadsheets and databases tracking donor deadlines, application status and reporting deadlines.
  • Coordinate collection of monitoring reports from partners and ensure timely submission to donors.

Events

  • Plan, manage and run partnership events for the year in collaboration with the team.
  • Attend fundraising events, including evenings and weekends as agreed.
  • Support the team during the WOMAD festival and run the Action Village India stall.

Individual Giving

  • Plan and deliver regular appeals and engagement communications.
  • Develop new methods to engage supporters and grow income from individual giving products.
  • Create engaging journeys to retain existing supporters and attract new ones.

Communications and Development Management

  • Create inspiring communications that promote supporter engagement and loyalty.
  • Oversee partner and project pages on the Action Village India website.
  • Contribute material to newsletters and support appeals to individual donors.
  • Work with partners to generate marketing materials and visual content about their work.
  • Assist in generating awareness‑raising, educational and campaign material for the UK where appropriate.
  • Manage the creation of organisational content such as leaflets, webpages and annual reports.
  • Collaborate with the Communications, Fundraising and Operations Manager to produce social media and CRM material aligned with the Communications Strategy.
  • Support the Executive Director with monitoring and formal progress reports to funders and other organisational needs.

Person Specification – Experience

  • Minimum 3 years proven experience in fundraising from trusts and foundations, events and individual giving.
  • Experience writing project proposals and reports for funders.
  • Success in raising funds from UK trusts and foundations, working independently or as part of a larger team.
  • Experience working in partnership and solidarity with national and local NGOs.
  • Preferred experience in international development, particularly in Asia and India.
  • Experience co‑organising events and fundraising activities.

Person Specification – Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of UK trusts and foundations and institutional fundraisers.
  • Knowledge of international solidarity and development landscape and/or familiarity with funder processes, databases and requirements.
  • Knowledge of Charity Law, Data Protection, Fundraising Code of Practice and related UK standards.
  • Ability to produce high‑quality written proposals, narratives, financial reports and communications for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to absorb, filter and re‑present information for new audiences.

Person Specification – Personal Qualities

  • Passion for supporting humanitarian services that benefit the most vulnerable.
  • Excellent communication skills; presenting complex information clearly, concisely and persuasively.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to stay focused and efficient amid changing priorities.
  • Self‑management and initiative in a small, flexible team.
  • Excellent organisational skills; systematic work to deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills, including cross‑cultural relationships and remote collaboration with international partners.

Desirable

  • Photoshop and InDesign skills.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends and stay overnight where necessary (e.g., WOMAD festival).
  • Ability to travel to rural India.
