ALL FM and Dragons Voice CIC are working together on a radio and podcast project celebrating how Chinese families in Manchester mark important life moments - births, weddings, and funerals. We want to hear stories from different generations: elders, parents, young people, and new immigrants to explore how traditional culture has changed over time, how living in the UK affects rituals, and how families pass on cultural values. This project is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Purpose of the Role
- Help coordinate the project and build strong trusting relationships with members of the Chinese community.
- Support interviews, workshops, and story collection activities.
- Ensure all activities are warmly welcoming, respectful, and culturally sensitive.
Key Responsibilities
- Community connection: Build friendly and respectful relationships with members of the Chinese community, families, elders, and local groups.
- Participant support: Help participants feel comfortable sharing their stories.
- Interview & workshop organisation: Arrange and support the timing and location of interviews, recordings, workshops, and other activities.
- Cultural sensitivity: Ensure all activities respect cultural traditions, family values, and community expectations.
- Story & consent handling: Collect stories, photos, and grant permissions safely and respectfully.
- Project administration: Maintain accurate records of activities, expenses, and evaluation data.
- Outreach & communication: Share project information through WeChat groups, community centres, and local networks.
