We are looking for someone passionate and experienced in supporting families to overcome relationship difficulties and create positive change. The Conversation Facilitator will play a vital role in supporting families where conflict and communication breakdowns affect day-to-day life and emotional wellbeing—particularly that of children.

You will deliver our Take Time To Talk programme in a person-centred way, working one-to-one with parents, couples, children, or entire families. Your aim will be aid understanding in parents and families around a range of relevant factors, open the lines of communication, improve mutual understanding, and help families build healthier, more harmonious relationships and family life. This will involve both individual support and facilitated family meetings, underpinned by mediation principles. You will work closely with the Young Person’s Relationship Worker.

Key Responsibilities

1. Direct Support and Family Engagement

  • Act as a gatekeeper for referrals, assessing suitability and arranging engagement
  • Deliver needs-led interventions through regular meetings at home, in the office, or at community venues
  • Work with families to:
    • Identify key issues and set clear goals
    • Facilitate family conversations using mediation themes
    • Provide guidance on relationships and child development
    • Explore creative ways of addressing complex issues
  • Complete assessments, monitor progress, and support families to exit the programme
  • Empower families by building on strengths and working holistically
  • Maintain accurate and timely session records
  • Collaborate with the Young Person’s Family Relationship Worker on joint support planning

2. Safeguarding and Case Management

  • Respond to safeguarding concerns in line with TalkFIRST procedures
  • Ensure referrals are appropriate or signpost to other services as needed
  • Maintain high standards of case recording and conduct regular file audits
  • Encourage service user feedback and involvement
  • Ensure outcomes are monitored and recorded
  • Take part in supervision, team meetings, and training

3. Organisational Contribution

  • Comply with all TalkFIRST policies and procedures
  • Promote TalkFIRST in a positive light at all times
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties in support of the charity’s work

4. Person Specification

  • Kindness, resilience, strong communication and a commitment to supporting families
  • Recognised qualification in social care, health, education or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of complex family life and relationships
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Creative approach to service delivery
  • Ability and willingness a to support colleagues and stakeholders with interventions and strategies
  • Positive approach to challenges and change
  • Willingness to engage in training and development
  • Commitment to partnership working and good practice sharing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Competence in using Microsoft Office, email, and the internet

  • Knowledge of issues affecting disadvantaged communities
  • Understanding of the mediation process and principles
  • Working knowledge of domestic abuse issues
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours
  • A driver with access to a suitable vehicle
