Resolve Poverty is looking for a skilled and creativeCommunications Officer to deliver and coordinate all aspects of our communications activity. Sitting within our policy and research team, this role will be responsible for delivering our regular newsletters and bulletins, managing our website and social media channels, and ensuring our brand remains consistent, engaging, and up to date across all platforms. This role will also support the promotion of our events, training and consultancy offers working closely with our development team, helping us to grow our reach and impact. Reporting to the Head of Policy and Research, you will play a crucial role in delivering against our strategic priorities:
- Maximising the financial resources available to households
- Supporting the development of effective strategic responses to poverty
- Equipping stakeholders with the knowledge and tools they need to tackle poverty
Title: Communications Officer
Location: Combination of homeworking and office based. There is an expectation that you will work two days’ per week from our offices in central Manchester.
Hours: 5 days per week (35 hours).
Contract: Three years.
Probationary period: 4 months.
Purpose: To deliver high-impact communications that promote Resolve Poverty and strengthen its brand and widen its network.
Salary range: £28,000 to £32,000
Paid annual leave entitlement: 25 days pro-rata. An additional leave day is provided for each full calendar year worked up to a maximum of 29 days.

Weare seeking a Communications Officer to deliver Resolve Poverty’s communications and marketing offer.
You will have a minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role and the skills to be able to apply creative, innovative and engaging approaches to our communications and marketing work. As Communications Officer, you’ll play a central role in sharing our work with stakeholders, partners, the media and the public. You’ll lead on digital communications, manage our newsletters and website, support media engagement, and help ensure our brand is consistent, accessible and engaging. You’ll also work closely with colleagues across the organisation to promote our programmes, training and consultancy offers, supporting us to realise income targets
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate and deliver our external newsletter and monthly Greater Manchester bulletin to our network of 4,000 stakeholders and produce our monthly internal staff newsletter.
- Manage and grow Resolve Poverty’s social media channels, producing engaging text, photo and video content that highlights our advocacy, programmes and events
- Advertise Resolve Poverty’s training, events and consultancy offer, utilising current communication streams and identifying new ones.
- Identifying opportunities to promote and market Resolve Poverty’s training, events and consultancy offer.
- Maintain and update website content, working with colleagues and an external consultant.
- Lead on designing our marketing materials and organisational outputs, ensuring consistent house-style and creating impactful copy
- Act as the first point of contact for media and general enquiries, working with the CEO to draft press releases and liaising with other colleagues and external contacts on media work.
Person specification
- Minimum two years’ experience of working in a relevant communications or marketing role, or with transferable skills developed in other roles.
- An understanding of voluntary or charity sector communications work.
- Confidence in creating compelling content, with an ability to tailor copy to different audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with people from a range of backgrounds and working in a range of different roles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write impactful copy.
- An appetite to align marketing and promotional approaches to Resolve Poverty’s communication outputs, supporting the organisation to develop and strengthen its approach to marketing.
- An ability to work to targets and to report on KPIs.
- Ability to plan and meet a demanding and varied work schedule.
- Excellent team player who is proactive and demonstrates initiative.
- Computer literate in Word, Outlook, Excel, Flourish and Canva.
- An understanding of the policy issues relating to poverty in the UK.
- A passion and commitment for social justice and ending poverty in the UK.
- Experience of poverty in your personal or professional life.
