Role: Residential Support Worker (Waking Nights)

Salary: £26,100 per annum

Location: Headington, Oxon

Contract/Hours: Permanent – Part-Time – 20 or 30 hours a week – night shifts (2 or 3 a week)

A bit about the role:

Our Residential Support Workers create a safe and supportive environment for children and young people to grow and develop. We are specifically looking for a Residential Support Worker who has had experience leading a team or may have been called a senior in a similar role. You will ensure their wellbeing is prioritised by delivering personalised care, guidance and advocacy. It is key that they stay safe and healthy and can reach their full potential. We'll enrol you on necessary industry qualifications along with regular supervision and team meetings to ensure you feel part of our team.

A Bit about the Service:

Viking House is our Children's Short Break centre in Headington for children with disabilities who have a diagnosis of autism, complex health needs and/or complex behaviour, up to the ages 4 to 18. The centre provides a structured environment and nursing care; as a nurse within the service you will give parents and carers the opportunity to recharge their batteries in the knowledge that their child is in a safe and stimulating environment.

Our Residential Support Worker works in a dedicated team through shifts with expertise and empathy. Their proactive approach to risk management and safeguarding our young people's wellbeing allows us to deliver the highest quality of care. With a commitment to continuous improvement, they'll ensure the wellbeing of our children and young people is prioritised by delivering personalised care, guidance, and advocacy. How you will help create brighter futures:

In the role as Residential Support Worker, you will be promoting Action for Children's values as well as supporting the Registered Manager, Service Coordinator and Team Leaders to achieve positive outcomes for the young person.

What you will be doing:

  • Providing lead case/care planning management, including assessing, reviewing and managing risk.
  • Co-ordinating responsibilities within the service, with multi-agency teams and producing family information, including analysis and written reports.
  • Attending professional meetings including reviews, court work, etc.
  • Being resilient in supporting the young people through challenging situations.

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a care setting and developing positive relationships through trust.
  • Application of a range of techniques to co-ordinate and communicate with service users and their families.
  • Demonstrate a solution-focused approach to address problems, individually and in a team setting.
  • Demonstrate emotional resilience to respond to the challenging nature of the role.
  • Possess a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or recognised equivalent) or be prepared to complete this within 2 years of commencing employment with us; full support will be provided.
  • Flexibility and able to work night shifts.
