A bit about the role
We are looking for an ambitious News Media and Relations Officer to join the Action for Children team based in Glasgow, Scotland on a 12-month Fixed Term contract. You will be responsible for planning, implementing, and delivering news and media relations activities in the UK to highlight Action for Children and issues relating to vulnerable and neglected children, young people, and their families. You will also be responsible for managing the Scottish Social Media Activity across different platforms and Internal Comms.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
- Plan and deliver a number of nation, regional and local proactive and reactive media relations.
- Manage the Scottish social media across different platforms.
- Relate national, regional, and local news and media relations to corporate KPIs, the corporate and country business plans.
- Actively promote and sell Action for Children's initiative-taking initiatives.
- Develop key relationships and engage with nation, regional and local media.
- Research and write media releases, statements, and articles.
- Co‐ordinate and deliver media meetings, press conferences and similar events.
- Function as a media spokesperson.
- Participate in the departmental news and media relations rota, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day including weekends and Bank Holidays.

- Experience of working within a press, PR, or communications office, overseeing proactive and reactive news/media.
- Experience of working with national broadcast, print, and online media.
- Experience of briefing and preparing service users and colleagues to undertake media interviews.
- Experience of working on projects/ campaigns within multidisciplinary teams to achieve shared objectives.
- Experience of planning and delivering creative news/media strategies.
- Experience of responding to crisis/reputation management issues.
- Ability to build rapport and establish, develop and maintain positive stakeholder relationships with journalists, staff, volunteers, vulnerable families, young people, and children.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with excellent diligence.
