About the Service
The Vale of Glamorgan Family Intervention Services in Barry provides professional intervention to families living within the Vale of Glamorgan who would benefitfrom support to make positive changes within their family life.
The age range of the children and young people is between 0 and 17 years old. We have found that the issues facing the parents/carers may include; mental health, substance misuse, trauma, DA, lack of parenting knowledge.
All of these issues can impact negatively on their children and young people and our skilled, compassionate and supportive staff provide a valuable intervention service.
About the role
As a Children’s Services Worker, you will be helping families with practical, hands on advice, guidance and role modelling, to enable parents to make positive changes to their daily parenting roles andhelping them create a stable and healthy home environment. Action for Children manage this team in partnership with Vale of Glamorgan Children and Young People Service.
The role operates similar to a trauma informed model, where our plans are carefully tailored to the individual and the trauma they have experienced in their lives.
The focus of your role is to empower service users to address various challenges and reduce escalations and breakdown in relationships. You’ll do this by providing hands-on support, and in some cases, you\’ll help make it possible for children to remain with their family.
How you’ll create brighter futures
- Building and maintaining a strong partnershipwith parents and carers
- Supporting parents with daily routines including cleaning routines, promoting self-care and infant care (0-3 years old)
- Planning and delivering complex and specialistinterventions on a 1:1 basis and in acommunity setting.
- Undertaking assessments of caseloads as well as reviewing and managing risks.
- Ensuresafeguarding practices are always in place.
- Flexibility to accompany young people when accessing community-based activities (e.g Swimming)
- Signposting parents to available resources for additional support as and when required
- Work with social workers, colleagues, other support service professionals and multi-agency networks to evaluate caseload needs and the progress that has been made
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date administration and caseload records, including reports of all interactions
Let’s talk about you
- NVQ in Health and Social care, playwork, early years or equivalent is Essential.
- Effective teamworking skills and experience of team group work and lone working in the community.
- Experience of working with Children, Young People and families within communities
- Ability to manage your own workload, administration and diary commitments
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and sensitivity when talking to families
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to act and adapt accordingly to situations.
- Good time management skills and reliability.
- Understanding of Safeguarding and willingness to enhance learning and report matters in accordance with agreed procedures.
