Duties

  • Provide day-to-day contractual support including the review, qualification and negotiation of commercial contracts, identifying and managing contractual risk and exposure.
  • Establish key contractual positions and prioritise critical risk items versus negotiable provisions.
  • Provide advice and guidance on contractual, transactional and compliance matters, including support on disputes where required.
  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels globally; strong interpersonal and influencing skills, combined with a collaborative approach, will be critical.
  • Work closely with Contracts, Senior Leadership, and Sales & Commercial teams globally to identify, understand, and mitigate contractual exposure, ensuring a consistent approach across the business.
  • Provide clear, succinct, and timely contractual advice to global offices, including identification of key terms and conditions deal breakers.
  • Work with Sales & Commercial Teams on client negotiations (including face-to-face), ensuring that the interests of the business are appropriately represented.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified, preferably a legal discipline (LLB, LLM etc.).
  • 4 or more years' contracts experience focusing on the commercial, energy (particularly offshore oil and gas), construction or corporate legal practice areas.
  • Experience, or good understanding, of the complexities of operating in an international group of companies.
  • The ability to rapidly build relationships and trust, both internally and externally, will also be critical.
  • A commercial mindset with the ability to balance risks/opportunities, is essential for success in this role.
  • Excellent attention to detail and intellectually dexterous with the ability to rapidly understand contract risk profiles.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload to meet tight deadlines.
  • Flexible with travel where required.
  • Strong analytical/critical thinker.
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Self-motivated, autonomous, inquisitive, and persistent.
  • Confident and able to challenge constructively where required.
  • An adaptable individual who can “make things happen” and facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Previous experience of working in-house in an energy or infrastructure environment would be favourable, but not essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of North Sea contracting (e.g. LOGIC) or similar contracts would also be desirable.
