We are looking to hire a Head of Projects on a full time, permanent basis. Based at our facility in Westhill, Aberdeen, the Head of Projects has the responsibility of managing the Projects Department to ensure Claxton services are delivered in line with client expectations, on budget and safely, whilst promoting the reputation for excellence with Claxton’s internal and external stakeholders.

Duties & Main Responsibilities

  • Provide overall management of the function to meet the objectives of the Projects department.
  • Leading by example, ensure the output of the Project Engineers is effective and highly utilised.
  • Create an environment that enables the team to deliver exceptional quality and service to customers, with projects that are delivered safely and on time/budget.
  • Ensure a process or mechanism is established for keeping abreast of the status of all projects and identification of potential risks.
  • Ensure project schedules are properly defined, documented, risk-assessed and changes communicated across the relevant departments, ensuring there is clarity and alignment on delivery goals.
  • Ensure risk registers are created, actioned, and developed for all projects with input from all relevant departments.
  • Approve project documentation as required through the project workflow.
  • Ensure all projects are undertaken in compliance with Claxton processes, policies, and procedures, in accordance with the IMS system.
  • Ensure lessons learned sessions are conducted following project completion and output action taken where required.
  • Evaluate project performance to recommend and apply improvements.
  • Support project management of CAPEX projects, where required.
  • Ensure regular project reviews are undertaken focusing on HSE, risk, schedule, and financial performance.
  • Ensure regular forecast reviews are held to maintain commercial activity towards the growth strategy.
  • Actively drive a positive and proactive HSE culture leading by example, including diligent HSE reporting and follow up on the Intelex system.
  • Provide regular reporting as defined to GM.
  • Support the GM and work with the rest of the leadership team to develop and implement the Company’s strategic plan, annual business plan, and associated objectives for the Great Yarmouth facility.
  • Work with Finance department to drive accountability for cost and profitability through the Projects function.
  • Work with the GM and other members of the leadership team to define and deliver growth strategies and business improvements.
  • Comply with and promote the Company’s vision, values, and policies, and comply with all legal requirements.
  • Interact with staff and contribute new ideas and solutions as part of a continuous improvement process.
  • Complete internal audits and participate in external audits as required.
  • Act as a member of the Incident Management Team.
  • Regularly meet with direct reports on a formal 1-2-1 basis at least monthly for a business review and update.
  • Use the company system APP (Acteon People Portal) to set and manage direct reports objectives, training/development requirements, and regular reviews.
  • Ensure that the optimal teams are in place, manage performance, invest in the team capability, and career development of direct reports, making changes where necessary, and provide clear succession plans.
  • Ensure Direct reports are developed/coached in relation to developing their own line reports and that any performance issues are dealt with in a timely fashion and documented accordingly.

Required

  • Degree in a relevant technical, engineering, or business discipline. Extensive applicable experience will also be considered strong rounded understanding of the upstream oil and gas industry lifecycle and how Claxton is positioned in this market.
  • Business systems that support the Projects functions.
  • Knowledge of offshore operations.
  • Delivery of multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Experienced business manager with project delivery combined with experience of planning, procurement, contractual and commercial elements.
  • Operating in safety critical environments. Implementing operational processes and procedures.
  • Integration of commercial and delivery activities, establishing greater commercial accountability throughout project delivery.
  • End-to-end accountability for the setting and delivery of project P&L’s.
  • Confident, effective, and credible operator able to work at the highest levels with clients’ organisations.
  • Experience of introducing processes and systems that subsequently bring about workflow improvement.
  • Understand safety cultures and working environment within project delivery.
  • Approachable and open to feedback.
  • Ability to plan, organise and deliver.
