We are looking to source a Workshop Manager on a full time, permanent basis. Based at our facility in Camborne, the Workshop Manager is responsible for leading the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the workshop and yard. The role ensures that all activities are completed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance while supporting wider business and project goals. The Workshop Manager oversees personnel, plant, and resources to deliver work in line with company requirements, promoting a culture of pride, accountability, and continuous improvement across the team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the yard and workshop, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the project schedule.
- Provide clear leadership and direction to all workshop and yard personnel, maintaining a strong team culture and high performance.
- Prioritise and allocate workloads, ensuring workshop staff are effectively supported.
- Manage goods-in and goods-out processes to ensure smooth logistical control of equipment, materials, and tooling.
- Support proactive maintenance of plant and equipment to optimise performance and reliability.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation to a professional standard.
- Champion a culture of safety and ensure compliance with Acteon’s HSE policies and procedures.
- Ensure all safe systems of work and risk assessments are in place, communicated, and adhered to.
- Identify and address hazards or unsafe behaviours promptly.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and environmental compliance across the yard and workshop.
- Ensure all deliverables meet Acteon’s quality standards and client expectations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality.
- Support inspection, testing, and commissioning activities as required.
- Lead and develop the workshop and yard teams, promoting collaboration, accountability, and pride in workmanship.
- Identify skills gaps and support training and competency development.
- Foster a positive, inclusive working environment aligned with Acteon’s values.
- Manage stock levels of spares, consumables, and PPE, ensuring availability and accuracy of records.
- Liaise with the Asset Manager, Project Managers, and other stakeholders to align operational priorities.
- Coordinate with suppliers and contractors to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience within a workshop, yard, or heavy engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental management principles.
- Working knowledge of plant maintenance, equipment management, and fabrication processes.
- Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive, solutions-focused attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement and teamwork.
