UTEC are looking to hire a Workshop Engineer on a full-time, permanent basis. Based at their facility in Aberdeen, reporting to the Workshop Manager, the Workshop Engineer has responsibility in aiding the Workshop Manager and assisting with overseeing all daily activities including allocating workload to ensure all project requirements are met and standards exceeded. Although primarily based in the UK, personnel are expected to assist with the support of UTEC Survey activities on a worldwide basis, which may involve overseas operations.

Duties

  • Assist in the supervision of workshop staff and activities on a day-to-day basis to support survey operations.
  • Assist in supervising the preparation and test equipment systems to ensure they are fully operational prior to mobilisation to the work site.
  • Assist in prioritising workshop activities to ensure timely preparation of equipment to meet project requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining, calibrating, and keeping all survey equipment in good working order. Keep appropriate equipment status, calibration, and movement records up to date.
  • Adhere to company health, safety environmental, permit to work and quality procedures at all times (both on and offshore).
  • Demonstrate ability to undertake risk assessments and deliver resultant 'Toolbox' briefings prior to any works commencing.
  • Encourage culture support awareness, ensure that team members understand what is expected from them, ensuring adherence to safety procedures and observance of safe practice at all times.
  • Provide essential support during handling of emergency situations. This involves delivering clear and concise instruction to other team members.
  • Take responsibility for checking, fault finding and commissioning of survey systems, providing direction to team members.
  • Maintain shipping records appropriate to shipment type.
  • Maintain preparation and test records for projects, equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Liaise with Workshop Manager regarding stock levels, systemic shortfalls, and improvements.
  • Attend mobilisation, preparation, and operation of survey systems to support project activities, ensuring adequate supply of spares, consumables, test equipment and documentation with each system.
  • Effectively communicate with other team members and clients.
  • Deputise for Workshop Manager in his/her absence.
  • Liaise with other parties during system installations to check interfacing and cabling requirements (e.g., vessel crew, ROV staff, online survey personnel) on interfacing and cabling requirements.
  • Log and liaise with Workshop Manager regarding faults and repair of equipment.
  • Record and assist with survey equipment movements to/from vessel.
  • Report to Workshop Manager on performance and suitability of equipment.
  • Identify and recommend system or procedural improvements (modifications, developments, or alternative equipment).
  • Train and develop workshop team.

Requirements

  • Qualified to degree level or HND in Electronics or Engineering (or recognised apprenticeship).
  • 5 years' experience in the support of positioning, construction, pipe lay, pipeline inspection or cable lay projects.
