Intermoor, Acteon’s Moorings and Anchors business line, provides project and operational management expertise to customers across the mooring lifecycle. By combining operational knowledge of mooring equipment, anchor handling, and industry failure modes with subsea engineering expertise, we create a company unmatched within the mooring niche. This approach mitigates risks in delivery, installation, and operations across the lifecycle, reducing mooring lifecycle costs and safeguarding major operations that protect start-up schedules when mooring and mooring intervention are on the project or production critical.
We are looking to hire a Principal Engineer on a full-time, permanent basis. Based at our facility in Aberdeen, the Principal Engineer will be responsible for leading the engineering team in delivering projects across InterMoor’s range of services, ensuring full compliance with relevant technical, company, and industry standards. The role involves guiding and mentoring engineers to uphold these standards across all activities, while contributing to the safe, efficient, and cost-effective planning and execution of projects. In addition, the Principal Engineer will play a key role in strengthening InterMoor’s engineering capability and supporting the pursuit of new business opportunities.
Duties & Main Responsibilities
- Guide and mentor the engineering team on delivery of engineering projects and activities.
- Provide the primary interface with clients, vendors, and third-party contractors in delivery of projects, tendering, and new opportunities; ensure maintenance of effective client interfaces.
- Encourage the engineering team to act with due regard to the core values of InterMoor.
- Enact continual improvement in work delivered by the engineering team through identification and implementation of improvements to policies, standards, and procedures.
- Assist Engineering Manager in planning and delivery of engineering technical activities.
- Develop the technical capability and expertise of the company and promote a culture of excellence.
- Identify and pursue new opportunities in collaboration with the Engineering Manager and Business Development Manager.
- Establish and maintain a network of contacts.
- Provide expertise on technical issues to ensure maximum possible conversion from quotes to orders.
- Deliver engineering projects as lead engineer in accordance with client and company expectations, ensuring quality of work, completion on time and in budget and compliance of contractual requirements.
- Lead response to tenders, enquiries, and relevant work requests.
- Review and approve engineering analyses, calculations and deliverables prepared by the engineering team.
- Carry out engineering activities such as mooring system design, structural analysis and design, anchor handling analysis, riser analysis, installation analysis, diffraction analysis, fatigue analysis etc. as required for delivery of projects.
- Provide technical advice in response to internal/external queries related to design, installation, and operations of mooring & anchoring systems.
- Keep abreast of the latest developments in industry codes and standards on mooring systems design.
- Quality assure work performed by the engineering team ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
Required
- Essential Degree (2.1) in relevant Engineering discipline (Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Subsea Engineering, Mechanical Engineering).
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in the offshore energy industry.
- Design and operation of offshore mooring systems.
- Marine operations including moorings/risers/subsea infrastructure installation and marine transportations.
- Dynamics of vessels, floating offshore platforms, moorings, and/or subsea risers.
- Project management experience including tendering, financial, scheduling & creating deliverables.
- Experience in leading a team and guiding the team members.
- Good commercial awareness.
- Advanced user of engineering software packages, with strong experience in mooring analysis tools (e.g., Gmoor32) and marine dynamics software (e.g., OrcaFlex), including the creation and review of complex models.
- Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred
- Structural analysis and design for ships and offshore structures.
- Competent user of engineering software, including hydrodynamic analysis (ANSYS AQWA) and structural analysis tools (Strand7/ANSYS), with experience in creating and reviewing models.
- Computer aided design and drafting software (2D or 3D).
- Ability to travel internationally and offshore.
- Offshore Survival Training & Medicals.
