Actemium Automation Warrington is seeking an experienced and technically capable Senior Software Controls Engineer (SCADA) to join our growing automation team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on varied industrial automation projects, using Siemens WinCC and TIA Portal to deliver innovative control and supervisory solutions for a range of customers and sectors.

As a Senior Software Controls Engineer (SCADA), you will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and design through to programming, testing, commissioning and customer support. You will work collaboratively with project managers, control engineers and customers, while providing technical guidance and supporting the development of less experienced engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce design specifications, control narratives, software documentation and system architecture documentation.
  • Design, develop and implement SCADA and process control solutions using Siemens WinCC and TIA Portal.
  • Configure and integrate supervisory control systems, HMIs, PLCs, process instrumentation and associated industrial networks.
  • Develop software in line with project requirements, company standards and customer specifications.
  • Carry out software testing, including internal testing, FAT, SAT and site commissioning activities.
  • Investigate faults, diagnose system issues and provide effective technical solutions.
  • Attend customer sites in the UK for installation, commissioning and support.
  • Work closely with project managers, electrical engineers, process engineers and customers to deliver projects safely, on time and within budget.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior and developing engineers.
  • Support project planning, estimating, technical proposals and design reviews.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, customer requirements and company procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, lessons learned and the development of standard engineering solutions.

Person Specification:

  • Proven experience delivering industrial SCADA, PLC or process control projects in an engineering or systems integration environment.
  • Strong practical experience with Siemens WinCC and TIA Portal.
  • Experience of Siemens PLCs, HMIs, WinCC and industrial communications networks.
  • Knowledge of control system design, process automation and software development standards.
  • Experience of testing, commissioning and fault-finding control and automation systems.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, process documentation, functional specifications and control philosophies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to engineering work.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently while contributing positively to a project team.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites and work flexibly to support project requirements.
  • A relevant degree, HNC, HND or equivalent experience in electrical, electronic, control or automation engineering is desirable.
  • Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution, or a willingness to work towards professional registration, would be advantageous.
