About the Role
Actemium Automation Peterborough is recruiting a Hardware Design Engineer with strong EPLAN experience to support the design and delivery of industrial control panels, MCCs and associated electrical documentation. You will work across projects spanning food & beverage and process industries, producing high‑quality schematics, assembly drawings and Bills of Materials to support manufacture, installation and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and terminal plans using EPLAN for control panels and assemblies.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), cable schedules, component lists and general arrangement drawings.
- Interpret client requirements and project specifications to produce compliant design deliverables in line with industry standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, software engineers, panel builders and site teams to ensure designs are buildable and supportable.
- Produce design change notices, respond to technical queries during manufacture and resolve issues raised at installation and commissioning.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and safe electrical practices (BS EN 61439, BS 7671, IEC standards, UL where applicable).
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments and project handover activities, maintaining clear project documentation and revision control.
- Drive continuous improvement in design processes and standards, including template development and library management in EPLAN.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience designing industrial control panels, MCCs or automation hardware in an engineering environment.
- Strong proficiency with EPLAN (P8) for schematic capture and project documentation.
- Good working knowledge of electrical standards and regulations (BS EN 61439, BS 7671, IEC 60204, UL508A advantageous).
- Practical understanding of PLCs, drives, HMIs, safety devices, relays and associated field wiring.
- Experience preparing BOMs, cable schedules and manufacturing package documentation.
- Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) or equivalent practical experience.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Full UK right to work and a valid driving licence; willingness to visit client sites as required.
